SPRINGFIELD, VA — Flight Springfield is holding a grand relaunch party on Friday, where former Navy fighter pilot Tammie Jo Shults and former NASA astronaut and space shuttle veteran Hoot Gibson will participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the retrofitted aviation-themed adventure park.
Located at 7200 Fullerton Road, Flight Springfield has been closed as it undergoes renovations and upgrades. The park, which was named Best in NoVA in June, will have giveaways, games and food at Friday’s ceremony and all weekend to celebrate its reopening.
“We are the world’s ONLY thematic indoor adventure park, with over 25,000 square feet of aviation and space themed attractions and activities and we can’t wait to show you our new look,” the park says.
Shults and Gibson are both members of the Flight Adventure Park advisory council. Virginia Del. Vivian Watts (D-39th) also will be speaking at Friday’s ceremony, which starts at 11 a.m.
Flight Springfield will be donating 20 percent of its sales from the three-day weekend reopening celebration to Horizon Day Camp, a local camp that is part of the Sunrise Association, whose mission is to bring joy to children with cancer.
Tickets to visit the adventure park can be purchased on Flight Adventure Park’s website.
